Long shots »
When using the Long shot tactic your players will shoot from the distance instead of playing their way through the defence. In effect you exchange attacks on the wings and in the middle for long shots. A long shot pitches the shooter against the keeper. This can be useful if you lack attacking power but have players with Set pieces and Scoring skills.
Effect: The Long shots tactic converts around 30% of your central and wing attacks for long shots. It can be a useful tactic when facing an opponent with a strong defence.
Disadvantages: Your central and wing attack AND your midfield is lowered 3-5%.
Important skills: The Scoring and Set pieces of your outfield players. When calculating your tactic rating Scoring will count for 3 times as much as Set pieces. The higher your tactic rating the more long shots you will get.
A team using the Pressing tactic has a chance to avert attacks before they are converted to long shots. If the attack isn’t averted an outfield player will take a shot. Anyone of your outfield players may shoot but it is twice as likely that it will be a Central midfielder or Winger, than an Attacker or Defender. The quality of the shot depends on the Scoring and Set pieces skills of the shooter. The opposing keeper may try to block the shot using his Keeper and Set pieces skills. For both shooter and keeper it is important to have a bit of both skills, rather than just a lot of one skill.
Ie a team that is up against the Long shot tactic can use the Pressing tactic to try and avert the shots or trust that the keeper will block them.
All long shots – including averted or blocked shots – will be mentioned in the match report.
It goes for all tactics that the higher your league level, the more difficult it is to achieve a good effect of your tactic.
You can experience long shots without using the tactic, in the same way you can get a counterattack without actually using the counterattack tactic. The probability of scoring on such a shot is calculated in the same way as if you were using the Long Shots tactic.
